Good Food and Wine Show – Cape Town
It’s nearly that time of the year again when foodies from all over the Western Cape come together to celebrate all there is about good food and wine. This year The Good food and Wine show runs from Thursday the 24th of May until the 27th on Sunday at the CTICC. Every year I set off to the convention and promise myself (and everyone else I go with) that we will be in and out in no time… and every year I fail. What is supposed to be an hour or 2 always turns into half a day or more. All I can say is YUM!
If you’ve never attended a Good food and Wine show then this is the year to go. Buddy from DSTV’s hit show Cake Boss will be there (if you want to book for one of his shows, click here) as well as Whitney from US Masterchef, Reza, Giorgio Locatelli and local foodies such as Abigail Donnely and Jenny Morris. Entry tickets are R95 and prices for different shows of each chef range from R100 to R600+ .Tickets are available from Computicket and you better book now if you still want to attend. DSTV is running a competition where you can win some tickets for the show here.
I came across an article on Food24.com that features an interview with everyone’s favourite baker Buddy from Cake Boss. Can’t wait to see him in action and taste one of his gorgeous cakes!
Q: Who inspires you and where do you get your ideas for cake decoration and design?
A: Most of my designs come from stuff I dream up. I’ll usually have an idea of what the client is looking for, and then I just think of ways I can take it to the next level. The guys and I come up with some pretty crazy stuff sometimes.
Q: What are some of your favourite ingredients for baking and creating confectionary masterpieces?
I like to stick to the traditional flavors- chocolate fudge, vanilla buttercream, etc. My favorite cake is actually a cake that my father invented. It is called a “cream puff cake” and it’s really good.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring young students who want to break into the culinary profession?
A: Be prepared to work hard. You have to be willing to put in 110% to be successful in the culinary world.
